Fast facts

About

Ultrasonic cavitation, often known as ultrasound cavitation, is a cosmetic therapy for breaking up fat deposits in the body. The procedure is advertised as a more effective and less invasive alternative to liposuction.

Safety

Although there are a few dangers linked with this operation, that does not rule out the possibility of negative effects. Bruising and soreness are common short-term side effects, and after healing, some patients have loose skin, dimples, and waves in their skin.

Convenience

Ultrasonic cavitation is touted as being incredibly handy due to its quick recovery time and lack of negative effects. Finding and talking with a certified, skilled practitioner with experience performing the treatment may be the most time-consuming component of the process.

Cost

Traditional liposuction is often more expensive than ultrasonic cavitation. The cost of treatment varies depending on the region being treated and whether you need multiple sessions, but the average is roughly $250–$350 for each treatment.

Effectiveness

The success of this medication varies, and more clinical trials are needed to fully understand how well it works. We do have some research to back up ultrasonic cavitation machine as a less intrusive option for surgical liposuction.

How does ultrasonic cavitation work?

Ultrasound technology is used in ultrasonic cavitation to break up fat cells. Ultrasound waves penetrate deep into your skin’s layers, generating a jarring vibration. Fat cells then separate from one another and fall out of your dermal layers. The fat cells were absorbed by the lymphatic system & discharged as waste from your body after a few days. It’s impossible to say how successful this treatment is, but a recent study suggests it could be beneficial.

Source conducted a small study in 2019 to see if ultrasonic cavitation may help 50 women who were medically overweight. The low-calorie diet was followed by half of the ladies, while the other half combined it with radiofrequency & ultrasound body sculpting procedures. The ladies who received ultrasonic cavitation demonstrated a reduction in body fat mass after 5 weeks. They didn’t lose any more weight than the other group, but they did drop body fat.

Source conducted a smaller study in 2007 that followed 30 people who were all given ultrasonic cavitation body reshaping treatment. After three treatments, all of the participants had lost weight. At the end of the research, the treated body fat area had shrunk by one to three centimeters. This study also revealed that subjects did not lose weight, but rather fat.

What happens during a session of ultrasonic cavitation?

Ultrasonic cavitation is a rather basic operation. Depending on the location of your body being treated, your doctor may ask you to undress in private and put on a paper gown on the day of your appointment.

Your doctor may use alcohol to disinfect the treatment area. They’ll slowly go over the target area of your body using handheld ultrasound equipment. During the operation, you may feel warm and hear the baby buzzing from the ultrasound equipment. Treatments last anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour.
